Hi, I’m Dana — an Appalachian woman, mother, social work student, storyteller, and the person behind Holler Girl Rising.
My life hasn’t followed a straight path. I’ve had to start over more than once, and somewhere along the way I realized that starting over isn’t the end of the story. Sometimes it’s where the best part begins.
Holler Girl Rising is where I write about real life: motherhood, going back to college as an adult, building a career in social work, working toward homeownership, faith, money, personal growth, Appalachian life, and all the messy, funny, beautiful moments in between.
I love photography, books, coffee, old things with stories, and the hills and river towns that feel like home.
I don’t have everything figured out, and I’m not here to pretend that I do. I’m just documenting the journey while I’m living it.
